All right, y'all. I haven't gotten started on today's word count, but I am up to 6,304 words as of yesterday evening. Of course, if you follow me on twitter (@ALSVossler), you already know this. I nearly up until midnight working on it. I pushed myself yesterday more to finish a scene in my outline than I did to get to my word count goal (which I exceeded by nearly 800 words). Now I have only two more scenes in this 'act' of the novel, one of which should be relatively short. I say should because my writing always seems to get away from me and ends up being way longer.
All in all, I am pleased with myself. Of course, an auspicious beginning does not necessarily mean a fortunate ending, so hopefully I don't lose my momentum.
Happy writing to all those who write--even if you're not doing NaNo!
Nice! Keep it up! I'm up to 8,839 words at the moment, and hopefully I can hold on to my current work ethic and inspiration level for the rest of the month. Luckily, I have two four-day weekends coming up, so those will grant me plenty of writing time. I've got to say, I have no idea whether my faintly (evanescently?) outlined plot will last me the whole month with enough words. I'm trying to devise ways to slow it down without actually slowing the action.
ReplyDeleteDon't slow it down. Keep going like a madwoman and then go back and fill it in. If you try to slow the pace of your story, you'll start to slow down, too. Just some advice. :)
DeleteThat's true. At the same time, a few detours may be necessary.
DeleteTrust me, Lizzy, your outlined plot will last. Stories have a way of running away from you, leaving you behind, screaming, "Wait! I didn't mean for you to get this big!!"
ReplyDeleteAs far as your use of evanescently, you're not quite on the mark. Remember that evanescent is synonymous with transient or evaporating. (You can remember this by noting that evaporate and evanescent start with the same three letters.) I hope your outline is not evaporating! (Though I have had that happen. Hmm...let's see, do I want this plot point? Nope!)
Got it! Yeah, I was thinking of "faint and foggy"-type words and it came to mind, but it is more for something going out of focus rather than coming into focus...
